Biceps tenodesis
This surgery entails cutting the long head of the biceps tendon and putting it into the humerus bone, arthroscopically or open. Either way, the rehab is the same. Refrain from NSAIDs for 4-6 weeks postoperatively and as always no nicotine products.
1-14 days: Sling for comfort and to avoid lifting with operative arm. Keep incisions covered. Ice 20 minutes at a time three times daily. May remove the sling multiple times daily for pendulum exercises and active/passive ROM.
2-6 weeks: Sling for comfort. No heavy lifting. Continue Ice. Initiate formal PT for active/active assist ROM. Elbow flexion limited to a cup of coffee. May start driving if no longer taking narcotics.
6-12 weeks: Increase active ROM. Initiate rotator cuff strengthening with therabands and resisted elbow flexion.
12-16 weeks: Lifting as tolerated
