Elbow release or loose body removal
Elbow capsular release may be done arthroscopically or open. Most loose body removals are done arthroscopically. We encourage NSAIDs and discourage nicotine products postop, especially early.
1-14 days: Early passive ROM. After capsular release, formal PT starts within a week of surgery. Ice three times daily. Keep dressing intact. Keep incision clean and dry.
2-6 weeks: Formal PT continues, focus on full elbow extension. Shower normally. Continue ice.
1.5-6 months: Continue directed PT for flex/ext and pronosupination. It is very important that PT exercises be performed at least 3 times daily to maintain motion and more often to improve.
ROM continues to improve up to one year
