Shoulder Pain
The shoulder is a complex joint. There are many potential reasons for shoulder pain including but not limited to rotator cuff tear, frozen shoulder, AC joint pathology, biceps tendonitis, labral injury, glenohumeral arthritis, brachial plexitis, and cervical (neck) mediated pain. We will look at some of the most common reasons for shoulder pain not related to glenohumeral arthritis.
|
Rotator Cuff TearThere are 4 tendons of the rotator cuff. The shoulder naturally ages just like the rest of the body. The supraspinatus (top muscle) is most commonly torn. These tears do not heal without surgerical intervention.

AC joint PainMost commonly, AC joint pain is located on the superior/anterior aspect of the shoulder. It can be associated with AC joint arthritis or AC separations/sprains.
|
Biceps PathologyThe long head of the biceps tendon and its insertion can be a major source of shoulder pain. It inserts into the superior labrum and can be a source of pain after a labral or superior labral repair.
