Clavicle ORIF and Coracoclavicular/Acromioclavicular reconstruction.
No NSAIDs or nicotine.
1-14 days: Sling at all times. Ice three times daily, 20 minutes at a time. Sponge bath only, keep dressing intact. ROM hand, wrist and elbow several times daily.
2-6 weeks: Sling most of the time, may remove when sitting at rest. Gentle pendulums and table slides. Continue ice. Shower normally now.
5-12 weeks: Discontinue sling. May begin driving. Initiate directed PT to focus on restoration of ROM and gentle rotator cuff strengthening. After fracture ORIF, may start lifting if radiographs show healing. After ligament reconstruction, no lifting.
3-6 months: Well healed fractures return to work and sport. Ligament reconstruction continue to focus on rotator cuff and periscapular strength. No heavy lifting.
6-9 months: Increase lifting including overhead activity. Continue periscapular strength. Eight-9 months out return to sport, including contact sport.
