Distal Triceps repair
This entails reattachment of the triceps tendon to the ulna bone. In chronic tears, advanced reconstruction options may be necessary and the post op protocol delayed.
1-14 days: Keep splint clean and dry,splinted in extension. Ice through the splint three times daily. No NSAIDs.
2-4 weeks: Convert to hinged elbow brace full extension to 45 degree ROM. Continue ice. No lifting.
4-6 weeks: Convert to hinged elbow brace full extension to 90 degree ROM. Continue ice. No lifting.
6-8 weeks: Convert to hinged elbow brace full extension to 120 degree ROM. Continue ice. No lifting.
8-10 weeks: Open hinged elbow brace to full motion. Work on obtaining full ROM of the elbow. May take NSAIDS if necessary.
10-16 weeks: Discontinue hinged elbow brace. May initiate gentle elbow extension activities. Wall pushups late in this phase.
4-6 months: Slowly increase elbow extension strength. May start isolated, controlled triceps pushdowns.
6 + months: May return to lifting as tolerated in a controlled manner, including benchpress activities.
